Anti-blog Article

A blogger is a stalker’s dream is an article that brings up several potential negatives about blogging. No real new ideas, bascially that a lot of weblogs have no real content and that by posting personal information to the web, it is avaliable to everyone. Yes, there are a lot of crap websites out there. I’ve frequently complained about this myself. Sometimes it feels like it would be better if it wasn’t so easy for people to throw stuff up on a website. I only want to see the good stuff. However, it has been through weblogs, along with aggregators and improved search engines that I have been able to find the good stuff easier and spend less time looking at crap. There are a lot of quality weblogs out there, and once you find one, all you have to do is follow a few links to find some more. As for potential stalkers, really, if you’re worried, don’t post personal information. One of the misconceptions a lot of people seem to have about weblogs, is that they are personal in the same way diaries are thought to be personal. They don’t have to be. Some people seem to like posting very intimate details, some people post everyday blah that only close friends and family care about. But there are also the weblogs that are more about global news, and fresh ideas. Blogs can really be about anything. I’ve been looking at the idea using weblogs in business and education. In a business there are a lot of activities and ideas that would not interest people outside of the company/business. However, to the people in the company, those activities and ideas can be very important. The same can be said about weblogs in education. There are a lot of good ideas flying around in academia land. Some of it may interest you, some of it may not. But I’d say weblogs are part of the solution to finding the stuff that interests you.
