Advice for NBA refs
23 May 2003
I generally agree with this article about advice for refs of NBA playoff basketball. A week or two ago I remember watching a Sixers/Pistons game in which one of the refs came out acted like he was the main show. Then thoughout the game he seemed to want to show everyone he was in charge by making brutal calls. At one point when talking with AI he mentioned something about controling the crowd. The crowd it part of the game, that’s the idea behind home court advantage. It’s not like the crowd was getting violent or anything. It’s playoff basketball, fans get excited. AI correctly pointed out that his job was not to control the crowd, but to call the game according to the rules.
The one thing I do not agree with is that superstars should get calls because they are superstars. Maybe they should get the benifit of the doubt. But when there is no doubt, you gotta make the call. As the article points out
“Look no further than Michael Jordan’s game-winning shot in the 1998 NBA Finals to see that great players are allowed to get away with certain calls. Jordan clearly pushed off to create room for his shot but because he was a superstar it wasn’t called.”
There really was no doubt. I think it would have been hilarious so see Jordan get called for an offensive foul. Sure fans would have gone crazy, but who cares. The refs should call the game, by the rules. That is their job.

NBA REFS SUCK

nba refs has to be the most unfair, stupid people on the planet. I can-not believe the bad calls that are called against the chicago bulls and the calls they dont get.
What I mean is, I watch the bulls take on New York Nicks, Bulls got beat up on the court and no fouls were called on nyn. Yet, One little foul from E.C., and the refs are all over it like stink on a pig. How fair is that? Going back to the bible…Let your Yes be yes…and your No’s be no. QUIT FAVORITING TEAMS YOU DUMB ASS’S.
Maybe the NBA need to hire another org. to ref games because you guys suck ass!
