Boggled by sewing machine

This evening I decided to finally convert some old long sleeve shirts. Two of my long sleeve shirts tore in close succession last winter. Oddly for both it was at the elbow. Anyway, the cutting was no problem. However now that I’ve found the sewing machine and hooked it up, I can not figure out how to work it. Come on, I took sewing in 7th grade Home Economics. I even still use that duffle bag I made. Maybe I can find relearn some other night.
