Insufficient Funds for Haircut
7 Sep 2003
Last Saturday I went got a haircut at First Choice and while trying to pay with my debit card I was told I had “insufficent funds”. I had just deposited some checks the a couple days before but even without that had knew I should have around $200. I didn’t have internet or a phone hooked up at my apartment so I went to the MC to check my account online and then make a phone call. The lady on the phone made some calculations an gave me some numbers that didn’t make sense. It seems like in the end I would get more money that I actually had, but I just needed to wait. She kept talking about how my US check was being held for 30 days and my Canadian checks were being held for 5 days. Later in the day I checked my account again, did my own calculations and figured out that they were holding part of my US check twice (the part before the exchange rate). I called again, talked with a different lady, and was able to expain the problem to her. She sent off an email to some supervisor and couple hours later I was given a temporary overdraft that I could use my $200 before the other money cleared.
Oh yeah, the haircut. I had to pay for my haircut with my credit card because I had no Canadian cash.
