Member of Blast Buster Team

I was recruited to be part of the Blast Buster Team here at Grebel. UW has become paranoid about gettting viruses since they got taken down by the Blaster virus last month. Now before a computer can be hooked up to resnet it must be inspected by a member of the Blast Buster Team. In order to pass inspection Norton Antivirus and Zone Alarm must be installed (I’ve heard a new CD might allow for other options like McAfee). At least for Windows computers. No one really specified anything for Mac or Linux. Anyway I was given a CD with the Blaster patch, Norton Antivirus Corperate Edition (w/ updates because without internet you can’t do live updates) and Zone Alarm and I went around installing these things on a bunch of computers. After installing these things, I put my unforgable intials, MKL, on the computers resnet form and the student can hand it in and get their port activated. I actually think it wouldn’t matter what initials showed up on the form. They might catch on if all of the forms had different intials, but a group of students could probably elect their own Blast Buster Member and have her sign everyones forms. It all seems a bit silly, but most student don’t mind getting Norton Antivirus for seemingly for free. I wonder what kind of licensing aggreement UW has for that.

it is a good idea in general, we got majorly affected here at Humber College (where I work) by the blaster worm and it was a real pain in the ass while trying to do training sessions
