Marquis Daniels

I’m still wonder how a player like Marquis Daniels went undrafted. If you watched any of the NCAA tournament last year, you would know that he was the reason Auburn did anything. I remember in the 4th quarter of one of their games Auburn pulled what we now call the “give it to the good guy” play, in which they gave the ball to Marquis and he calmly dropped a huge three. He was clearly one if not the best player on the floor. Yet on draft day he doesn’t even get picked. The Raptors go and trade a future pick for Matt Bonner and then use their own pick for Remon Van de Hare. Who??
Then a team like Dallas picks up Marquis as a free agent. Pretty smart move. Almost as good as getting Nowitzki and Pat Garrity for Tractor Traylor. The thing is, I can understand why some of the foreign players might have slipped by some teams in the past (Manu Ginobli, Tony Parker, Mehmet Okur) but I wonder why a 6′ 6” guard from Auburn with solid regular season numbers who lights it up in the NCAA tournament gets passed on by every team in the draft.
